[WP11] Olivewood(Olea europea)

This wood grows in southern Europe and particularly Italy. The trees are very long-lived, there being examples alive dating back to the time of Christ, and so it is close-grained and hard. It is a medium heavy wood with an average density of about 55 pounds per cubic foot (890 kilograms per cubic meter). A wood with a very attractive and distinctive figure, it exhibits a pale to mid-brown color, attractively marked with irregular grey, brown and black streaks giving it a marbled appearance. The texture is fine and even and takes ornamental cuts well but does not exhibit a very polished cut surface. It can be used mainly to show off its figure in an ornamental design where it is combined with other woods, such as African blackwood, which have decoration applied.
