[WP04]Boxwood(Buxus sempervirens)

This wood grows in a range from southern Europe to Asia Minor and western Asia. The grain is very fine and even-textured with a pale yellow, straw color. It is a heavy, dense wood averaging about 57 pounds per cubic foot (910 kilograms per cubic meter). Its creamy smooth texture makes it an excellent carving wood. Traditionally in ornamental turning, it was used for chucks and as test pieces to try out cutting patterns before proceeding to execute the design on more expensive and rare materials. Today, it makes a suitable substitute for ivory and combined with African blackwood is very effective as a material for details such as finials and inlays.
