This is a closeup view of the index pin engaged into the index plate
in preparation for the first ornamental
turning process on the project. The index pin has an internal spring in the mechanism that
holds it into the
index plate. The black lever coming down from the pin assembly allows levering the index
pin out of the hole
for each change in index plate position when cutting the pattern. The index plate has 6
rows of holes,
84-96-108-120-144-192. The holes are all marked with unique colored dots at the
2-3-4-6-8-9-10 positions
in each series of 12 holes. All even divisions possible with the index plate fall in one
of these holes and this
marking helps to prevent errors in placing the index.
